This meeting is a fantastic opportunity to network with public and private foresters and timber industry representatives! ____________________________________ Colorado Communities to Participate in National Wildfire Community Preparedness DayFORT COLLINS, Colo. – This Saturday, communities across the state of Colorado will come together to prepare for the wildfire season and take actions to reduce their wildfire risk on 2015 National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. _________________________________ Swap steel, concrete, and brick for wood – wooden buildings are cheaper and cleanerfrom Architecture & Design Swapping steel, concrete, or brick for wood and specially engineered wood equivalents would drastically reduce global carbon dioxide emissions, fossil fuel consumption and would represent a renewable resource. What’s more, managed properly this can be done without loss of biodiversity or carbon storage capacity. ______________________________ Using Whole Trees In Building Constructioncontributed by The co-founding team of Roald Gundersen AIA, an architect, and Amelia Baxter, in partnership with the Forest Products Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, have developed a process that allows them to cost-effectively grade, engineer and manufacture the small trees removed from routine forest thinning (called small diameter round-timber), and use the timber as patented trusses, beams and joists in building construction. In doing so they turn forest waste into a sustainable and high value building material. __________________________ Colorado State Forest Service Accepting Proposals to Protect Private Forestlandscontributed by The attached news release announces that the Colorado State Forest Service is now accepting Forest Legacy Program proposals from Colorado landowners. The program authorizes the USDA Forest Service or the CSFS to purchase permanent conservation easements on private forestlands to prevent those lands from being converted to non-forest uses. ________________________
